Family-owned distributors K&M Tire and Zurcher Tire merged, with K&M absorbing Zurcher's 12-distribution-center wholesale division and reaching 52 warehouses nationwide. The Zurcher family had partnered with K&M since 1977.
Consolidation isn't only happening at the retail counter: the distribution layer that supplies independent shops is scaling up too.
Why Zurcher Tire was a target
- →Distribution-footprint scale: 12 more DCs mean better route density, faster delivery, and entry into a new state (Missouri).
- →Thickening overlap in shared states improves purchasing power as wholesale competition intensifies.
- →Two aligned family businesses combining is lower-risk than integrating strangers: shared culture and a decades-long relationship.
