Boyd Group Services, which runs Gerber Collision & Glass in the US, acquired Joe Hudson's Collision Center for roughly $1.3 billion (about 258 Southeast collision shops), bringing its US footprint near 1,273 locations, second only to Caliber.
Collision is its own consolidation story: the work is largely insurance-funded, which makes the revenue unusually defensive and attractive to acquirers.
Why Joe Hudson's Collision Center was a target
- →A dense, well-run Southeast operator in a region where Gerber was under-indexed: instant regional scale that's nearly impossible to build greenfield.
- →Established insurance direct-repair-program (DRP) relationships and a proven management team came with the deal.
- →Insurance-funded collision volume is recession-resilient, underwriting a premium price (~9x EBITDA post-synergies).
What it means for owners
Whatever makes your revenue durable (insurance relationships, fleet contracts, recurring service) is what buyers pay a premium for. The durability of your book matters as much as its size.
